What does excellent customer service consist of?
Q. What characteristics would a store have that provides excellent customer service? What are the salespeople like? The cashiers? Is there a clear presence of the manager on duty? How much does good customer service influence your decision to return to a store? How important is it in comparison with prices? Would you actually be willing to pay a more if it meant you were getting better customer service? Give some examples of standard customer service behaviors that you would like to see changed. Give some examples of stellar customer service you've received. Thanks everyone for your input! Already, some great suggestions-- thank you everybody!! A. Unfortunately I see very little good customer service these days. Perhaps we'll see more of it with the recession now and people needing their jobs. I believe that cashiers and salespeople should be polite, helpful and keep in mind that customers pay their salaries. A smile is always nice! I've had unbelievable rudeness from cashiers. Many don't like large orders going through the line and if you have coupons they sigh or roll their eyes. I think they should be fired for this kind of behavior. I would pay more to go to a store with good customer service. I avoid some stores because of the rudeness of the cashiers.

Q. Wondered if anyone knew of some good websites to check average costs for auto repair/replacement, parts and avg. time needed to perform a service. For example: How may hours does it take to replace a water pump in a mid-sized car? Any useful sites are much appreciated. Thanks!

A. I use rockauto.com to compare parts prices, they're pretty cheap & have a pretty large parts catalog. Not sure of any sites that estimate labor for various jobs, although a repair manual (Haynes, Chilton etc) would have labor estimates.

Q. I was wondering if anyone has used these UMB's and if they have could you provide some feedback in terms of comparisons to a regular or retail broker? Can you negotiate price, how much did it cost in comparison, customer service???

A. I'm not sure what you mean by that term. I work for a mortgage broker - there are no "up front" fees if that's what you mean. All of them will be required to give you a Good Faith Estimate "up front" too. Hope that helps, email me with questions at robert495713@yahoo.com.

How do you comparsion shop for routine health care services?
Q. I have a high-deductible health plan and would like to make the most out of my health care dollars by comparison shopping for prices. What tools do other consumers use to look up prices and find the best value. My health plan does not provide very good price transparency tools so I need to rely on other sources.
Asked by ConsumerAdvocate - Thu May 22 10:05:42 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. We desperately NEED price transparency and the system is rigged against it. What I recommend is get a really good PCP and start with his recommendations. Also see if you pay him cash at the time of service if he'll give you a discount--quite a few docs take 30-50% off for that as insurance is low and slow pay usually and the paperwork costs are enormous. Consider looking for things like lab work via grocery stores, drug stores, and Walmart. Kid you not. In Arizona, we have two chains of groceries that do that--Bashas and Fry's. They both have independent labs that come through about once a month and will do testing for greatly reduced costs versus what you normally pay via the doc sending you to some place or drawing your blood and… [cont.]

Cheaper options for getting around SE England by rail?
Q. My husband and I are planning a trip to England this summer and we are looking into taking some excursion trips from London to Stratford Upon Avon and Bath. I've been pricing the rail trips for this on National Rail and in comparison to what we pay for train service in the Netherlands the prices are insane. Is there a discount card or four day pass or some other value option that insiders know about that could save us travel costs on our trip?
Asked by Elizabeth N - Mon May 12 04:59:08 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. check out the railcard website - there is a south east network card that you can buy for UK20 which gives you 1/3 off your fares. I usually buy the family railcard when I'm home in the UK for a holiday and even though I only use it for a few weeks, it is worth buying rather than paying the full fare.

My Father has been best friend's with one of the Service Manager's for over 10 years. I have a Chrysler Sebring that needed some things fixed, so I left it there last night to be fixed today. I went home and looked up the exact same truck in our area because I felt like we could have gotten a better deal. Is it worth paying extra ?
Q. Hunting around for car insurance, and could just go with the cheapest on a money comparison list - but is that the best option ? For a bit (to a lot!) more some insurers include benefits such as courtesy car & free legal service etc. But is it worth paying the extra for something I might not use ? I notice Direct Line are refusing to be part of these lists because they say they are not accurate comparisons as cheapest price is not necessarily the best deal. Now I know why it's called confused.com! Can anyone help me ?
Asked by Gidob - Thu Sep 6 05:59:12 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I wouldn't pay for the legal service, it's highly unlikely that you would ever need it and if you did all you need to to is visit your local CAB for advice. I think the courtesy car is a good idea, I have this on my direct line policy as I would be lost without a car - I live in a village with no bus service - so I think the extra I pay is worth it and it's not much anyway, about 20 a year from what I remember

I am from NYC I visited Charlotte (Mecklenburg) and I loved it. Is it a good place to raise a family?
Q. I was in Charlotte, NC (Mecklenburg) for a week and I loved it. The homes were in sub communities at a reasonable price. In comparison to NYC the pace was much slower and the people just seem genuine. I work in the financial services industry and I feel confidant that finding a job in my field would not be a problem. My wife is in the process of finishing her LPN program. However, before making any hasty moves I would like to know what am I to expect if I decide to move there. After all I have three kids (ages 5, 8, 10) and would like some feed back on how are the schools in Mecklenburg? What area would be a good place to live? A. You could get the stats about anything you want to know about any city in the world online and base your move on that information but to know first-hand from the people who actually live(d) in the area would probably be worth much more to you in the end. Like any other place you choose to investigate, you will find each has its good and bad points. You will find that when you are in NC visiting, what you see REALLY is what you get. We aren't a people who "pretend" too much about anything. When we tell you and your family to "come see us sometime", we really mean it (and expect it). People in NC generally are genuinely accepting of others no matter where they are from or what their cultures may be. Once you are moved into the area, don't… [cont.]

Q. Rich Athletes, Poor Teachers By Dan McLaughlin Posted on 7/11/2007 | Subscribe or Tell Others | Top professional athletes regularly sign multi-million dollar contracts, with signing bonuses and lucrative product promotion deals. Why do professional athletes make so much more money than, say, professional teachers? Do people really value sports more than they value education? Teachers provide a service that is generally accepted as contributing real value to the development of society. Some people view sports, however, as superfluous. They think of it as something that society could function well without. It doesn't seem to make sense that work deemed important by most people could be valued far less than that which may be unnecessary or… [cont.]

I've been looking at broadband comparison sites for the UK for a while now because I don't think AOL's prices are good for value. I pay something like 17.99 for 256k broadband. Im sure that is expensive. I want a high bandwidth broadband, something at least 512k, i prefer 2mb to be honest. A. Well I'm using BT and it seems quite reasonable. It's up to 8Mb/s, unlimited broadband, we get around 3.4Mb/s . I believe we pay something like 26 a month for that package, you can get other ones. But if you wanted a cheaper provider, there should be many available. Tiscali for example probably don't do a bad job from what some of my friends have said.

I don't know what comcast has for stations so I can not comment on that. I can tell you that the internet is far superior for the simple fact that you are not sharing your signal with anybody.
