Is verizon fios really cheaper than comcast in the long run?
Q. My family is looking to make the switch over to verizon fios to save some money. I already know the service and packages, but in the long run will we be saving anything? Are those prices just introductory prices or do they stay the same throughtout the 2 year contract?

A. Having FIOS means that you will have your own direct line from your home to the CO (central office), and you will not be sharing your signal with anybody. If you have cable for your Internet and experience slowdowns at specific times, that is because you are sharing your signal with your neighbors, neighborhood, and local area. I also like that with FIOS if you ever loose power you will still have dial tone because of the bbu, that is if you have a non cordless phone. The best thing about FIOS I have to say is that they use a proud union work force, not contractors that get paid by the job. You can be sure that your job will be done the the highest standards. What service has a clearer picture quality verizon fios or optimum online?
Q. Which has better picture quality for the tv, which included hd and normal channels. I'm thinking about switching to fios.
Asked by Ghost - Tue Feb 26 20:47:45 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. I would switch to FIOS...it's delivered to your home using Fiber Optical cable...so you don't have a bunch of noisy rf amplifiers adding NOISE to your super clean signal... It's so clean your LOW Def signals will have all the detail that you can get from a signal like that...and they do look like HD channels do... And the best thing...in April ,Verizon Fios will be switching all the LOW Def Signals to Digital Signals...and while it seems Redundant since it's delivered via Fiber Optics, it's going to make HD much more available on the stations that are still Low Def...the switchover to HD is knocking on our Doors... Woo Hoo! Man, it's only two months away !

How can i improve my experience watching sports on verizon fios?
Q. When I record sporting events on fios I record the next hour of shows in case the game goes into overtime. But when the recorded sports program ends the fios dumps me back into live TV of the same channel. Sometimes I will end up seeing the final score of the game I'm trying to watch. When i had directv it would automatically go to the next recorded program and i wouldn't even notice it. Why does verizon fios do this? Its been years. Is there a firmware update or something that corrects this? So lame.

A. When you set the recording you can select before and after run over. Select your recording and then select modify. Then you can adjust the end time.

Will hooking up a second FiOS router in my home provide internet?
Q. Basically, my original working FiOS router is downstairs and I want to provide the fastest possible connection to my XBOX upstairs and Wireless just isn't cutting it. I've heard that buying another FiOS router via ebay or craigslist will allow you to hook up a second internet connection on a coax jack. It's either this or Im going to go with a powerline ethernet adaper.
Asked by darveaux - Mon Mar 22 10:59:48 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No because you will need another ip address and your isp gives one per connection. What you can do is run a long cable to your xbox or maybe move that modem upstairs or simply buy a power-line Ethernet adapter.

How do you set up a verizon fios box?
Q. How do you set up a verizon fios box to your televison? My friends dad unhooked it for some reason and now she has to hook it back up. Does anyone know how?

A. it's not all that hard... based upon the type of FIOS box you have (2500,6200,6416) it's rather hard without knowing what type of box... But basically, you screw in the coxial cable into the coax jack labled input... for output to the tv. look at the back of the tv... see if you have the following... 1) HDMI connection 2) Component hooks ups (colored red/blue/green) 3) S-Video 4) Composite (colored yellow, red, white) 5) Coax Note 2 &3 will also need an additional red/white jacks too. Theses are listed from most desireable to least.. after you find out what your tv has...find the corresponding colored jacks on the back on the cable box...(the cable box may not have all jacks listed above,, just choose the best that you got.) … [cont.]

How do i change the NAT settings on my verizon fios router so i can play xbox live?
Q. I have a Actiontec MI424-WR verizon fios wireless. my xbox is connected to it through a xbox wireless adapter. there some people on xbox live i can not communicate with and i found its because my routers NAT is set to "moderate" rather than "open" how do i change this? please not my pc is not the one connected to the router.
Asked by bmoore5110 - Mon Sep 15 16:15:46 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Open the ports on the router: Port forwarding must be enabled on the TCP port 80. Port forwarding must be enabled on the TCP port 3074 That is usually why you get anything other than open for the NAT.

With Verizon FiOS, can I record programs I have recorded with the DVR onto a videotape?
Q. I want to put a bunch of music videos I recorded with my Verizon FiOS DVR onto a videocassette. I just tried doing this by putting the tape into the VCR, getting my DVR-recorded program queued up, and recording it by pressing the record button on the VCR. It didn't work, though. Is this even possible to do?
Asked by the_lone_marmot - Wed Jun 4 12:23:38 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes you can, here is how: The coax from the wall goes into the fios stb (set top box) However you are coming out of the STB that goes into the VCR. Then the cords going out of the VCR go to the TV. Turn on all units. Tune the TV to what ever inputs are being used by the VCR. Play the DVR, if you can see it playing on the TV, you will be able to record it on the VCR. If not you will need to change the channel on the VCR, usually it will be tuned to "3".

Does verizon fios show what videos you watch on the bill?
Q. We have verizon fios, and we are subscribed to some 'adult' channels. If i clicked on one of the shows on On Demand [but it is free and we are subscribed to it] then would my parents be able to find out that i watched it? I wouldn't have to purchase any videos.
Asked by ~live.laugh.love~ - Thu Nov 27 10:13:01 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The only time a movie shows up on your bill is if it has a cost. The title, date and time are on the bill. If it is an adult title, the title does not show, it only says adult. If you are subscribed to a movie package and there is no charge for the on-demand movie no it does not show.

How do you put tv on dvd mode when you have a verizon fios remote?

A. I don't recommend using the FIOS remote for anything other than the STB (Set top box) and TV Volume, unless all you want to do is push play on the remote for the DVD. Since you haven't said which remote you have go to this site for more info.

How to turn on the access point for verizon fios internet if it is off?
Q. I've tried resetting the router, pressing it quikly and holding. I can't seem to turn on the access point, now remember this is verizon FIOS internet, the router I have is an actiontec m1424wr router, m1424wr is the model. I've tried several things, but I'm sure the router does not have a problem but I'm doing something wrong. I don't know if the access point is activated on the internet or the router?
Asked by AJST - Mon Jul 30 22:49:53 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Take the router out of the connection and hardwire into the modem. If it doesn't allow connection, then the modem is not configured right. You may need a crossover cable from the wall to the modem, depends on model. If all OK, plug in the router and run hardwire to it. Again, may need a crossover cable between modem and router, depending on modem. This will help eliminate problem area.

How do you run a server under FIOS internet connection?
Q. Lets say I wanted to run a Ventrilo, Counter-Strike or FTP server under my FIOS connection, how would I go about doing that? I know that the firewall blocks it, but if you open a certain port or something it will work. Please HELP!
Asked by TheRAT - Mon Sep 17 17:27:15 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you are using a router, you will need to setup the Port Forwarding and DMZ Host. Make sure your server has a static IP on your private home network like 192.168.1.44 and in your routers config for the port forwarding, you will point PORT 8080 to 192.168.1.44 for http access. Also your router will need to support MAC cloning to tie the routers MAC address to the servers MAC address.

Does Verizon Fios phone work when the power goes out?
Q. I always had the original Verizon Phone service and whenever there was an outage it would still work, what about FIOS? Is it any different?
Asked by RebelRobot - Wed Jun 3 22:22:42 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes you can as long as you have a corded phone. It will allow you to make outgoing calls. You will not get incoming calls. The batter back up has about a 10 hour life. What that means that you have 10 hours of talk time. Not just if your power is out for 10 hours.

What are the hidden fees related to Verizon Fios?
Q. I have heard nightmare stories of "added" fees and unexpected costs and contract terms. I'm thinking about getting Fios, but please warn me if you have a bad experience. Thanks!
Asked by Denny - Sun Dec 20 18:00:22 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I have not had a bad experience with fios at all;however, being in the front line i call tell you what customers think are our hidden fees and what not.. **1st the hidden fees. the hidden fees lie with being a regulated telephone company. The fees associated with being a regulated telco company is the 6.50 subscriber line charge(if you get digital voice then this is removed). The subscriber line charge is a fee by telco providers to maintain the copper facilities. ***unexpected costs. we charge per box. 3.99 dig adapter/ cable card5.99 standard box. 9.99 hd box. 15.99 dvr or 19.99 hd dvr. if youdon'tt have the box you don't have the service on thoes tv's just like Satellite. The other charges are the prem movie and international channels. * [cont.]

Q. I have heard nightmare stories of "added" fees and unexpected costs and contract terms. I'm thinking about getting Fios, but please warn me if you have a bad experience. Thanks!
