How do cashiers make a living?
Q. Whenever I go to the super market I always see these middle aged/ old women behind the cash registers. I can understand working there when you are young, but when you are older you have to make a living financially and from my understanding cashiers don't make a lot of money. How do these older people make a living as cashiers? It's not like they get tips.

A. Guess it all depends on their situation, some may be there purely to have a job and get some income, guess others are there as maybe their husband has a good job so can support them both but her being there helps out with cash flow. Also some may have been there since they were young and just never left.

What happens to a cashiers check that is void?
Q. I am in possession of a cashiers check that I origionally misplaced and have now found. Although, it is dated for the 28th of May 2008 and says "void after 90 days" which would make it currently void. Does the person who wrote the check lose their money, or can they get a second check without having to pay the amount a second time?

A. They need to return it to the bank for refund or replacement. Expect to pay another fee.

Why do people get angry at cashiers when they have to prepay for gas?
Q. Why do people get angry at cashiers when they have to prepay for gas? You know how much you want to get and you have to come inside anyways. If you plan on paying with a credit card why not use it at the pump?
Asked by Wendy L - Sat Dec 15 19:41:11 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When you fill up you don't know exactly how much it will take then you have to go inside twice. Once to pay & then to get your change. I try not to get mad.

How much do cashiers or baggers at Publix get paid?
Q. Their website says the minimum age requirement is 14 years old, and that they would hire them as cashiers/baggers. How much would they get paid? Thanks :)

A. Every area in each state is different. Most likely it would be minimum wage. Try checking your local government's website to see what that would be.

What is the inside scoop on how cashiers checks get cashed?
Q. I mean, what are the steps that are taken to cash a cashiers check? Like: 1 I take the check to the bank. 2 I sign the cashiers check 3 The bank inputs it into my account. 4. They take the cashiers check and EBT it? But what happens after that? My bank says that since it is larger than $5,000 that they are putting a hold on it for 10 days, but couldn't it clear sooner than that? What if it does clear sooner than that? Do they actually send out the cashiers check to the bank it originated from? And for all you people out there you scream scam: It is a legitimate cashiers check from a legitimate business, active and on file in their state. I am just wanting to know if it could be in my account as available before the 10 days is… [cont.]

A. Whatever happened to electronic banking? Where I live, the bank that is cashing the check talks to the bank that originated it by computer. Confirmation that the funds are available should take a few seconds. I would call this definitely cruddy banking, and complain big time. Go to the manager, and INSIST that he get it cleared up immediately. A cashier's check is a guarantee of the funds being there, because those funds have been paid into a separate bank account that the originating bank controls. NOTHING can remove those funds but that one cashier's check (and it's corresponding receipt number).

How long can you trace a cashiers check once it's been cashed?
Q. My roommate has a business manager who handles our rent. I had my mother buy a cashiers check for 3 months rent. I thought everything was good until 6 months later my roommate asks for the money, again. He said he never received the check and now wants it from me or will take me to court. What can I do to find out where the check went?
Asked by 4sr7 - Mon Sep 14 16:59:23 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You should have gotten a copy of the cashiers check and on the back will be instructions for how to trace the check.

Why are some people so rude and even cruel to waiters and cashiers?
Q. I work in retail and cannot believe how mean people can be. Why do people feel it is ok to berate cashiers, waiters, and others in similar professions?
Asked by Amber - Sun Dec 9 23:07:20 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because they've obviously never had to work in one of these professions and they have no idea how nerve-wracking and frustrating and exhausting it can be. Some people just, plain and simple, have no compassion for others and have no ability to see beyond their own narrow viewpoint. I completely know where you're coming from! I know it's easier said than done, but try to cheer up and just feel sorry for these people. Imagine how shallow their lives must be. :)

A. Yes. Have the person that purchased the cashiers check call the bank and order a copy of the check. The bank should be able to get a copy of the cleared check the the check # and dollar amount.

If I cash a cashiers check at my bank will the transaction show on my bank statement?
Q. I have just received a cashiers check as a gift and went to my bank to cash it. I have a joint account and planned on using the money to buy a gift for my boyfriend. When I tried to cash it I was told that I would have to put my account # on the check. I don't want my boyfriend to even know I have the money. If I put the account # on the cashiers check, will the transaction show up on the statement?
Asked by Stormie P - Fri Nov 7 20:07:47 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No it will not show up on your statement for cashing it. The reason the account number is wanted is for ID and to cash it against your account. Basically if the check were bad the money would be taken from your account listed on the back. That is the only way it would show up on your statement is if the check is fake and the bank collected your money for it being a bad check. Otherwise you are in the clear.

What are the current security features on bank cashiers checks?
Q. I want to know what are the immediate security features that have to be verified in order for you to hand over a cashiers check, made out by your bank, without another bank mistakingly flagging it as counterfeit as was the case with me when I bought my latest car a few months ago. I actually posted this concern a few weeks ago, but didn't get much of a response... mainly because my detail was very long lol, but seriously, can someone please clue me in here?
Asked by The-Razors-Edge - Sun May 23 01:26:53 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There aren't any consistent security features. Each bank designs their own checks and they can differ from paper to water mark to design. Now you know why there is so much confusion with cashiers checks... Crooks love them. And yes, it can happen that in all the confusion a good check is accidentally flagged as a counterfeit until the banks can verify between each other that the check is covered. What you should do when you receive a cashiers' check: # Inspect the cashier's check. # Ensure the amount of the check matches in figures and words. # Check to see that the account number is not shiny in appearance. # Be watchful that the drawer's signature is not traced. # Official checks are generally perforated on at least one side. #… [cont.]

Why do female cashiers in retail cling to customers?
Q. Why do female cashiers no matter where they work cling to customers? Then they stalk the customer and act like they are not doing anything wrong. To make it even worse they look no different than these girls that work at places like supermarkets, gas stations, and other retail holdings. They could be any size skinny, athletic, fat, average looking or whatever. Is there laws for these type of people? What do managers do to them? Do some of these people have lives besides causing trouble? Are these people crazy and creepy as hell?
Asked by 1 - Thu Nov 6 22:03:22 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. trust me. they arent doing it because they want to. if workers do not at least say hello to you or try to assist you with shopping, and trust me the managers of the stores tape you and when you dont talk to you customers, you get you ass jumped. some places its worse than others. cut em some slack. or just ignore them.

Are our future landlords req'd to remove the for rent sign if we gave them a cashiers check for the deposit?
Q. We signed the rental agreement and gave them a cashiers check but we have NOT signed the lease yet.
Asked by Boot Lover - Thu Nov 8 16:06:15 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No, they are not required to remove it until you sign the lease and everything is approved. Reason being, your deposit holds the apartment but is not a guarantee contract, because most of the time the deposit or part of it is refundable. In accounting terms, they can not recognize that income until your lease is signed by both parties, so they will not remove the sign if they are not receiving actual income yet. Hopes this help and not too wordy.

Which is safer a cashiers check or personal check for earnest money? Which is more recommended?
Q. I need to know which is safer to use a cashiers check or a personal check used to pay for earnest money, whom should I give money to my realtor? Can someone tell me the process for this thanks in advanced.?
Asked by . - Sun Sep 2 20:33:10 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It doesn't mater how you pay, it will by law be cashed immediately and deposited in an escrow account. If there is a Realtor involved the Realtor will take the check to the Title company. Otherwise you would bring the check to the title company with the signed and agreed to contract. 1. You make an offer. Sign the contract and include the earnest money check. 2. The seller accepts the contract and signes it. 3. The title company gets the contract and deposits it into the escrow account. 4. Title search, dsurver and other details are done to prepare for closing. 5. At the closing date you get together and close. Usualy at the title company. .
