Can you cash a cashiers check without a bank acount?
Q. I recieved my state tax refund, it's a cashiers check, and I don't have a bank account. I really don't want to open one unless I have to. Is it possible to cash a cashiers check without having a bank account?
Asked by Tommy B - Wed Feb 14 03:18:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you go to the bank that the check is drawn on, then they will cash it, provided that you can supply sufficient identification. You might also want to consider if you have any friends or family that has a bank account, endorse the check over to them, let them deposit it into their account, and give you the cash. A lot cheaper than going through a check cashing place.

What happens when you deposit a cashiers check into your account and it turns out to be fraudulent and a scam?
Q. I recieved a cashiers check from a person that won an item from me on ebay. Well, it turns out that when I deposited the cashiers check, it was fake. Has this happened to anybody before? What actions will be taken and will this affect me in any way since I deposited the check into my account not knowing it was fake?

A. Once the check is found out to be fake, the bank will take the funds back out of your account. They may also charge you a bank fee.

A. Check their website. I don't believe all employees are union. My friend used to work there and she was not Union. Maybe just the cashier's are union workers...

Why are some people so rude and even cruel to waiters and cashiers?
Q. I work in retail and cannot believe how mean people can be. Why do people feel it is ok to berate cashiers, waiters, and others in similar professions?
Asked by Amber - Sun Dec 9 23:07:20 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because they've obviously never had to work in one of these professions and they have no idea how nerve-wracking and frustrating and exhausting it can be. Some people just, plain and simple, have no compassion for others and have no ability to see beyond their own narrow viewpoint. I completely know where you're coming from! I know it's easier said than done, but try to cheer up and just feel sorry for these people. Imagine how shallow their lives must be. :)

Is it possible to trace a cashed cashiers check?
Q. Someone sent me a cashiers check for an auction purchase. I never received it. Now they are saying that the check was cleared by their bank. Can they trace the check and see who fraudently signed it and deposited it?
Asked by CrabbyPatty - Tue Apr 17 15:49:49 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes. Have the person that purchased the cashiers check call the bank and order a copy of the check. The bank should be able to get a copy of the cleared check the the check # and dollar amount.

How can a cashiers check be no good?
Q. My boyfriend purchased a cashiers check from his bank and sent it to our landlord for the rent. He lives in another state and they won't cash the check. They say it is not any good. How can that be when it was purchased from a bank? It is already filled out with the landlord's name on it. Will my boyfriend have any trouble getting them to the bank to give him back the money for the check?

A. if it is certified with a bank i dont see why he wouldnt accept it. tell him to call the bank to confirm that it was withdrawn from his account, he has no need to send a bad check. a cashiers check is equal to cash.

Breaking a Lease when the landlord lost your cashiers check?
Q. My landlord lost my cashiers check and was going to send me to collections if I did not pay again. So I had to pay twice in one month. I think they may have done this because I brought up breaking my lease and did not like it (just a thought), but what I want to know is this reason enough to be out of my lease?
Asked by bob b - Wed Feb 11 18:22:27 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Quite simply no it is not reason to break your lease. Get a receipt going forward even for personal or cashier checks. That will avoid him forcing the double payment until the bank returns your funds for the lost cashiers check.

Is there a way to get scammed by someone sending you a certified funds cashiers check?
Q. I sold vitural items to a person, and he says the cashiers check that his bank is sending me is certified funds. Can he in any way possible take the money back after i cash it? Just to clear things up, the vitural items that i am selling him he knows he is getting. The bank he said its coming from is Canon Fed Finance Credit Union. Is this even a bank?
Asked by Final Trial - Mon Nov 20 15:51:35 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the check is valid no he can't take the funds away. A certified check is guarenteed by the bank, you're drawing bank funds. It's like the bank wrote you a check, and that guy paid the bank. The biggest scam is that the check is fake. The biggest scam is fake checks from local banks. They will send you a "certified check" for more than the asking amount, and blame it on a bank error. They will ask you to send back the extra amount, and since there is no local branch of the bank that the check is said to be from it will bounce out of your account after you have given him the extra money. So to protect yourself only accept cashiers checks from a bank you can physically go to to cash it, or deposit it with a hold to make sure it… [cont.]

Can I refund a cashiers check to my bank?
Q. I went to my bank the other day and got a cashiers check to pay a bill. It turns out that its already been paid (parents did it) and now I'm stuck with a $192 cashiers check. Will my bank let me return it and restore the funds to my account?

A. You are the owner of the check, you can return it but won't get the fees back. For $192 you should have got a money order. They are much cheaper.

Does anyone know if a person can play a scam on people with a cashiers check?
Q. I posted my story on a website for prayer and financial help. A man e-mailed me and offered to help me by sending a donation. I let him do it just to see what would happen and I received a cashiers check in the mail and I took it to my bank but they put a hold on it to verify it. The only thing that puzzled me was he wants to give me an address to western union a portion of the money to another person in need and that sounds strange. I shouldn't have done anything with the check because it's probably a scam and I'll be charged. I figured with it being a cashiers check and you have to pay to get it and the bank is real so I assume it might be real money. I guess people could get cashier checks from banks somehow and print them out. I don' [cont.]

A. I started as a cashier a year and a half ago at HD in southern Ohio, and since they (HD) put a cap on pay, the cashiers start out at between 7.50 and 8 an hour. I looked into moving to Chicago last year, and I would only have gotten a dollar raise for cost of living.

How do cashiers remember most of the PLU codes?
Q. Hi, I've applied for a cashier and I know the call should come soon and I most likely will need to remember most of the popular PLU codes if I am hired. How do you (casheirs) do it? How do we know that the apple is this kind and not the other kind? Is this provided during the training? Will my employer provide me with a booklet with the pictures or just a list or do we just know by experience OR do we have to go around the store and look at them ourselves? Any tips for me? Thanks!! =) Also, should I also tell the customer how much money I received from them and how much I am giving them back for change?
Asked by clarinetklutz - Fri Jul 6 22:59:13 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the more popular codes will get stuck in your head through sheer repetition and yes - tell them how much they are giving you, and then what their change is

A. I could go on and on about this subject, but here are a few things... Asking "Is this line open?" when I'm standing there with nothing to do. I wanna say, "No, I just felt like standing here and staring at you like you have a huge physical deformity that has giant pus bubbles popping out at random." If something won't ring up then "it must be free." I hate that. A lot. The last place I worked people actually used the dressing room for a restroom. Nasty.
