What is the best food for a cat to gain weigh after nursing kittens?
Q. A mom cat and her kittens adopted my patio a little while ago, and naturally I've been trying to leave some food and water out for them as often as possible. The mom cat was very skinny so I have been feeding her extra foods packed with vitamins and fats, like chicken, special dry & canned cat food, turkey, some beef, and she LOVES biscuits and cheese! :) But she never seems to gain any weight. I want to make sure she is eating enough to produce milk for her kittens and remain healthy, but it doesn't seem to matter what food I give her. Any food recommendations for a nursing stray cat? Also... If they stay around any longer, I will have to take them to the shelter but I'd rather give them to people who will provide a good home. I… [cont.]

A. DO NOT Give "milk milk milk" like the above answer states - cats are lactose intollerant. Give the mother small amounts of yoghurt & PROPER kitten milk (or goats milk - as it is lactose free) out for them. Also, the mother might like some red meat (such as beef) minced & a raw egg in it. You need to make sure the mother's diet is high in calcium so the kittens get the calcium through her milk to ensure they don't have low calcium levels and break their little legs a little while down the track Also, if the mother is now very skinny & not putting weight on, it may be an idea to worm her with a worming treatment that is suitable for breast-feeding queens...as I live in a different country I don't know what is available where you are,… [cont.]

What food to sell at a high school's fundraising event?
Q. We're considering chocolate-covered frozen bananas, but aren't sure if they'll sell. Many of the less-exotic foods have already been claimed by other clubs (soda, donuts, burritos, burgers, caramel apples, apple cider, garlic/foccacia bread, fried chicken, fish balls, smoothies, pizza, sushi, tapioca). We are also not allowed to sell food cooked by ourselves. What other food items are likely to sell well? By the way, I live in northern California, so the weather is always pretty mild. What should I do about cat food that my cats eat like candy then get pukey?
Q. I know it isn't the best food for them, but they get so darn happy to have it. I only buy it once every six bags or so and the food I buy them most often is a formula for indoor cats (which they both are). With the regular food I occasionally get a hairball but with their favorite food I think they overeat. I don't know if I should stop buying their treat food or not. They don't puke every day, maybe once every three days. It is not like I am starving them so don't panic. I just don't know if it is bad to give them a food that they snarf down so aggressively.

A. The best food for them has the first one or two ingredients as meat or poultry. I have 4 cats and they are all indoors and the indoor formula doesn't seem to have the meat. Any how, I would either mix their favorite with the other. My cats do the same thing and when it is mixed they need to slow down to dig it out.
