foodDefinition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary (Redirected from Food) Jump to: navigation, searchFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Food is any substance or materials eaten or drunk to provide nutritional support for the body or for pleasure. It usually consists of plant or animal origin, that contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life. The right to food is a human right derived from the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), recognizing the "right to an adequate standard of living, including adequate food", as well as the "fundamental right to be free from hunger." Historically, people obtained food from hunting and gathering, farming, ranching, and fishing, known as agriculture. Today, most of the food energy consumed by the world population is supplied by the food industry operated by multinational corporations using intensive farming and industrial agriculture methods. Food safety and food security are monitored by agencies such as the International Association for Food Protection, World Resources Institute, World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, and International Food Information Council. They address issues such as sustainability, biological diversity, climate change, nutritional economics, population growth, water supply and access to food. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What food service occupations are there where jewelry of any kind is considered a safety issue? Q. I was just reading that in a different section. And am curious because I have worked in several kitchens in the past where all the engaged/married women wore wedding rings. And I have never heard of them being a safety risk. Even at the food handler's safety classes that the health dept has, they don't mention that being a risk of any kind, which they would be required to do so if it was. The only time I have ever heard of anything related being a safety issue where food is concerned is when I worked at a summer camp one year. There was one boy who felt prejudiced because he was not allowed to wear nail polish while the girls in the kitchen were. He was told the reason he wasn't allowed to was because it might chip off into the food, even… [cont.] Asked by Cinnamon - Thu Nov 2 02:07:25 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I used to work at KFC when I was a teenager and if only I could find the handbook because I remember reading in there that we're not supposed to wear jewelry. Of course, it's one of those dumb rules that no one really follows. Kinda like those dumb laws that were made a long time ago. I think part of the reason why is because jewelry can spread germs and when you're preparing food, it could be possible to spread germs from your rings to the food, but that's a long shot. And I guess there's also the possibility that your jewelry could accidently come off into the food but that's a longshot too. It's just one of those dumb rules. And since you mention wearing gloves...I've noticed that in places like McDonalds and Burger King, the… [cont.] Answered by Jennifer - Thu Nov 2 02:18:41 2006 What food category does a protein shake fit in? Q. I have to analyze a classmates food intake and compare it to the food pyramid and they have protein shakes down. Does that fit into the food pyramid at all? As what? Asked by Kten48 - Fri Jan 22 17:36:11 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Don't put it in w/ meat like the other guy said. Chances are it's whey protein which is DAIRY and if it's mixed w. milk that's obviously DAIRY too. Answered by Dick Buttkiss - Fri Jan 22 17:42:02 2010 What human food treats do you feed your cat?
Q. I make wet cat food and stick to foods I know are fine for cats. Like Human Grade Turkey Liver, Chicken Liver, Chicken Thighs and Boneless Salmon, Peas and Carrots. What other foods would you suggest to put in there? I tried Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash and it worked as well:) I do feed dry food, they get homemade wet food because of the bad preservatives and fillers like corn and wheat. Asked by Erin - Sat Aug 16 19:52:50 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. My cat loves to eat lots of human food if you can spare them some chicken not raw or maybe some roast lamb, but if you don't have that they love Tuna or my cats favourite ham and luncheon Hope this helps cheers Answered by Popcorn - Sat Aug 16 20:00:31 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Food" FoodFrom Wikiquote Jump to: navigation, search This page lacks sufficient introduction or links to Wikipedia.
